Introduction

Barrier Group supplies safety and traffic-management products across a catalogue containing hundreds of SKUs and many product categories.

I worked with the team to restructure the product architecture and redesign the website experience. The work needed to support customers who knew the exact product they required, as well as people beginning with a workplace, safety or access problem.

Creating clearer routes through the catalogue

The size of the product range made hierarchy an important part of the experience. Categories, subcategories, applications and technical relationships needed to remain understandable without creating an oversized navigation system.

I reorganised the catalogue structure and mapped the main product journeys before translating them into navigation, listing and detail-page patterns. The aim was to make the range easier to scan while preserving the depth expected by experienced trade customers.

Supporting different levels of product knowledge

The catalogue needed to support people looking for a known product as well as those starting with a safety, access or workplace requirement.

I paired product navigation with routes based on industry and application. Category and attribute filters support more specific searches, while the contextual pages introduce relevant product groups.

On mobile, the filters open in a separate panel so customers can refine the list without crowding the product cards.

Building reusable product journeys

The interface was designed around reusable patterns for category pages, product listings and product details.

Product pages needed to accommodate variants, specifications, technical resources and enquiry pathways without becoming difficult to scan. Shared patterns created consistency across the catalogue while leaving room for product-specific information.

Result

The completed designs give the catalogue a clearer structure and a consistent route from product discovery to technical information and enquiry.

The work shown here presents the redesign, including catalogue navigation, product listings and product-detail patterns.
